Adding materials and costs

How to use the materials section to itemize parts, supplies, and costs in your proposal.

The materials section lets you add a line-item breakdown of parts and materials, so clients can see exactly what they're paying for.

Adding materials

  1. 1Open a proposal and scroll to the "Materials" section.
  2. 2Click "Add Item".
  3. 3Enter the item name, quantity, unit, and price.
  4. 4Repeat for each material or supply.
  5. 5The section auto-calculates the total.

When to use it

Materials breakdowns are especially useful for:

  • Remodeling projects with many components
  • Jobs where you're supplying specific brands or models
  • T&M (time and materials) billing
  • Clients who want full transparency

Note: Showing a materials list doesn't mean you have to show your markup. You can list retail prices, or bundle materials into a single line item if you prefer.

Labor vs. materials

You can add both labor and material line items. Some contractors prefer to show them separately; others show a single total. Either approach is fine — use whatever matches how you discussed pricing with the client.
